Galing Foundation, Inc. (GFI) 2010 Mission Trip to evaluate the development of Kipalkuda Elementary School library

GFI's intervention starting in 2008 with this school is made possible thru the partnership with Datu Wali Mission (DWM). The school is also a recipient of GFI's Youth Leadership Award (YLA) and the Best in English award since 2009.

The provincial government of Sarangani provided funding for the construction of the school library in 2009. The school has implemented a system of library inventory of available resources as well as logging in of all library visitors/users. Since there is no librarian designated, each teacher will make a reservation for her/his class to use the library for specific hours and days of the week.

Teachers of the school expressed the following resource needs:

1. More activity books (big visual books)

2. Dictionaries, encyclopedia

3. Science and Math books

4. English literature

5. Teaching visual aids, flash cards, etc

6. Science and Technology visual aids and basic laboratory apparatus

7. School supplies (inclusive of artwork materials)

The certificate of appreciation was also given to the Barangy Council of New La Union, Maitum Mayor Elsie Perrett, and Governor Migs Dominguez for their support in educational development.
World map was also turned over to the school that can be used for geography classes.

Thanks so much for the Datu Wali Mission's work in this school as well as hosting our stay in Maitum during the visit.
