DepEd Sarangani Recognition for Delta Air Lines Amenity Kits Donation

The Department of Education - Division of Sarangani celebrated its 20th DepED Foundation Anniversary with the theme, “Preserving Indigenous Peoples’ Cultural Heritage through Responsive Education.” The event was held last August 8, 2013 at Provincial Gymnasium, Capitol Compound, Alabel, Sarangani Province.

"One of the highlights of the said occasion is the Gawad Parangal, where we will be giving recognition to our dear stakeholders who take part in the achievements and realization of the programs and projects of the Division." -Isagani dela Cruz, Schools Division Superintendent

Delta Air Lines amenity kits distribution at Naidas Opong Elementary School

DepEd Sarangani Memo for Delta Air Lines Amenity Kits Distribution

Schools Division Superintendent Isagani dela Cruz issued a Memo dated July 8, 2013 for the schedule of the release of the amenity kits to the recipient schools (IS-Integrated School, PS-Primary School, ES-Elementary School):

Through the leadership of former governor, Mr. Miguel Rene A. Dominguez, the Division of Sarangani has been given milestone donations from various stakeholders. Among these are the Amenity kits which were donated to the Province and intended for Grades 1 and 2 pupils of public elementary of Sarangani. These Amenity Kits came from Delta Air Lines upon the initiative of Ms. Arjho Carino-Turner of the Galing Foundation (USA) and Honorary Philippine Consul General Donato.

Considering that the responsibility for distribution is already passed to DepEd-Division of Sarangani, the Schools Division Superintendent, through the OIC Supply Officer, schedules the release of these amenity kits to recipient schools on July 16-19,2013,08:00 AM to 05:00 PM at the Division Office, Capitol Compound, Alabel, Sarangani.

Recipient schools are asked to make necessary documentation of the release of these

amenity kits to their Grade s I & 2 pupils and submit a reporl to the Office of the SDS.

Recipient schools are also advised to bring a vehicle to carry the amenity kits and must

come on the scheduled date and time.

Attached is the List of Recipient Schools and the schedule date of distribution.

GFI Objectives

1. To carry out the Foundation's growing partnership with the local communities, schools, organizations and individuals, through a system of collecting new and gently used educational resources (from children's books, reference books and school supplies) to donate to public schools, libraries and day care centers in the impoverished rural areas in the Philippines.

2. In partnership with the office of the Philippine Honorary Consulate General and the organizations, GFI co-hosts programs that annually recognizes accomplished members of the Filipino community in the State of Georgia who have made valuable contribution, serving others in the areas of education, civic, social and business service.

3. In partnership with the office of the Philippine Honorary Consulate General, GFI promotes the high standard and the importance of volunteerism, sevring others in the community he/she lives in as well as to promote value of a consistent engagement in the events and business of the Philippines.

4. To promote the value of responsible partnership and stewardship in the community we live in as well as back home - the Philippines.

GFI Mindanao: Gift for Indigents

Achieving a quality education in the indigenous cultural communities (ICCs) in Southern Mindanao, Philippines can be very challenging. Most of the schools in these communities lack the substantial educational resource materials and do not have their own school libraries that could aid the teachers as well as students to have the same academic standard enjoyed by other school counterparts in the town center and even in highly urbanized cities.

In 2007, GFI started outreach for one elementary school mainly by sending books, some toys and kids clothes, school supplies and other educational resource materials. As of 2008, GFI is doing active outreach for the following schools namely the Maligo Day Care School, Maligo Elementary School, Kipalkuda Elementary School, and Landan National High School. GFI is also partnering with the Maligo local government unit to establish their Public Library. These outreaches are located in two provinces of Mindanao Island, South Cotabato and Sarangani Province.
