Filipino Children's Arts Exhibit


The Opening Ceremony of GFI Children's Art Exhibition at the Roswell Visual Arts Center (www.roswellgov.com) will be on June 26, 2009 at 7-9 PM.
Filipino children's art works are coming from:

GFI shipped 10 boxes for Mindanao Outreach
GFI shipped 13 boxes of books and other educational materials to benefit the Batangas and Mindanao outreach. Ten boxes will benefit the GFI Mindanao Outreach. Maligo Day Care School Best in English Awardees
1st GFI Mindanao Summer Arts Workshop



The Maligo Elementary School of Polomolok, South Cotabato, Philippines hosted the first Summer Arts Workshop on May 25, 2009 in partnership with the Galing Foundation, Inc. According to Jocelyn Robles, GFI Mindanao Coordinator, “it is the first time for these indigent students to do an artwork and have experienced the fun in their creativity”.A total of 57 students participated for the arts workshop that was composed of students from Maligo Elementary School, Maligo Day Care School and the GFI Mindanao Kids Club.
The submitted artworks will form part of the upcoming month long Filipino Children’s Art Exhibit in Roswell Visual Arts Center, Georgia. Ms. Robles added that “the participants were able to explore and express their insights/views and perception about the United States of America based on the educational resource materials they got from GFI”. The student participants further expressed their gratitude for “ the fun, enjoyment, and the worthy experience that made them feel great this summer”.
GFI Mindanao outreach would like to thank the teachers of Maligo Elementary School, Maligo Day Care School, GFI local volunteers, student artists, local government officials and GFI school supply donors for making this 1st Summer Arts Workshop in a predominantly Blaan tribal school possible.

Rationale of the Nominee
Our school’s choosen awardee for Mindanao Youth Leadership Award (MYLA) is Kimberly V. Gantuangco, a grade six and a graduating pupil of Maligo Elementary School.
Kimberly or “Kimkim” as she is fondly called by everybody, is a consistent first honor pupil of our school from grade 1 to 5. This school year in her sixth grade, looking at her good performance in class, a good leader and a diligent pupil, it is not impossible for her to make it again to the top.
District Match Olympics, 2005-present, super Quiz Bee, STEP and others, were some of the contest represented by Kimberly to the district level since grade 4. An active troop leader of the Girl Scout of the Philippines, the Class President since 2006 and the President of School Governing Council at present.
Being president of the pupil government, she can lead the pupils in school do their everyday tasks like coming to school on time, attending the flag ceremony and maintaining the cleanliness of the school campus. Even with the absence of their class adviser, she can manage the class by letting her classmates behave and do their board works until their teacher arrives.
Our nominee is a good dancer. In fact, she participates actively during Barangay Foundation Anniversary being the dance leader in field demonstrations since her primary grades. She can even create dance steps and choreography, a big help in the part of her teachers considering her suggestions.
Kimberly is helpful, considerate and approachable. She is everybody’s friend. She has that concern for other, use her initiative thinking of some alternatives for the good and welfare of everybody.
A responsible and dependable pupil, soft-spoken girl with confidence, beauty and brain, vetting good example to everybody at her age to become an ideal person which makes us all happy and proud.
