Name and History of the School:

The school is located at Barangay Maligo, Polomolok, South Cotabato, a peaceful barangay at the foot of Mt. Matutum. It is composed of eight (8) purok/sitios and it has three complete elementary schools and one primary school. One of the schools is Maligo Elementary School. The school is named after the name of the Barangay.

Maligo Elementary School was once a primary school opened in the year 1985 by Mrs. Gegenia Layog Lasmarias. She served the school until 1988. By 1988 to 1990, Mrs. Meriam M. Consad headed the school followed by Mr. Hacyone L. Luyao on to 1990 to 1993. Mrs. Herlyn H. Berondo was the next teacher-in-charge of the school until she was promoted to Head Teacher III to Principal I. It was a primary and multi-grade school from 1985 to 2006 with only two teachers. It was during the time of Mrs. Lorie T. Yayong when the school became a complete elementary with monograde classes. There were six teachers then; three with regular permanent
items and three were municipal paid under the Local School Board. At present, Mrs. Lorelyn S. Fabulare, Teacher III of Landan Elementary School was transferred to Maligo Elementary school as the teacher-in-charge and a classroom teacher as well.

Type of School:
Maligo Elementary School is a non-central, complete monograde school. It caters to children living at the Purok Center, Purok Mauswagon and some intermediate pupils coming from other Puroks/Sitios. The school is situated in a rural area, specifically in an agricultural community.
It is accessible by walking, animal (Carabao or Horse) ride, tricycle, single motorcycle and other means of transportation. It is 10 kilometers away from Polomolok East School District. It has a land area of 10, 000 square meters.

Curriculum:

The school is using the Restructured Basic Education Curriculum (RBEC). The competencies are based on the Philippine Elementary Learning Competencies (PELC). The media of instructions are English and Filipino in all grade level (Grade I to Grade VI). Sometimes Cebuano or Ilonggo
dialects are used.

21 GFI boxes recieved

Jocelyn Robles, GFI Mindanao Outreach Coordinator, confirmed the arrival of 21
boxes from GFI as of October 28, 2011. Herein the number of the boxes 148, 149, 150, 151, 152, 153, 155, 156, 157, 158, 159, 160,161,162,163,165,167,169,170, 171, 172. The school teachers from Landan National High School along with some volunteers helped in the assorting of books and other educational resource materials and transportation to benefit the following:

Jocelyn also sponsored for the creation of a general turn over tarpaulin that will be used for each beneficiary. Formal turn over ceremony photos will be submitted to GFI once available.

Picture science books for the GFI assisted schools

During the GFI visit to the different schools last May, the teachers expressed to the Mission Team that they are in need of science picture books. They have shown us their impovised visual of body parts and their functions used during science class.

The above books will benefit the following schools:

1. Maligo Elementary School - Polomolok, South Cotabato

2. Landan National High School - Polomolok, South Cotabato

3. Kipalkuda Elementary School - Maitum, Sarangani Province

Donations for big visual books for science is very much welcomed!

Dictionary for schools

One of the expressed needs of the different schools during the GFI Mission Trip 2010 is dictionary for the school library and also pocket sized dictionaries for the students. The dictionaries above will be sent to the different schools assisted, 1 big dictionary and 2 pocket sized dictionaries for each kind per school. The schools will be asked for feedback if they like it and more will be sent later.

This project dubbed as ....help stump illiteracy, Buy Me A Dictionary (BMAD) was conceptualized by Bernard Turner after talking to students during the visit to the schools. The pocket sized dictionaries were bought from Barnes & Noble, tax free. Upon knowing the concept behind buying bulk dictionaries in the future for Galing Foundation, Inc...the Barnes & Noble store in Cobb Parkway decided to donate 4 medium sized boxes of educational materials.

Everyone is enjoined to participate in this project...dictionaries are not necessarily bought brand new but at least published within the last 5 years.
